The Wire Strike Kit is designed to provide a measure of protection for the helicopter in the event of inadvertant flight into horizontally strung mechanical, electrical transmission and communication wires and cables.
It's also designed to reduce the possibility of flight control damage during a wire strike and decrease the possibility of wires becoming entangled in the landing gear. In actual cases, this system was effective against multiple wire strikes. The typical wire strike kit consists of an upper cutter/deflector, a windshield deflector, and a lower cutter/deflector. Each cutter is equiped with high tensile steel cutting blades.
Most kits come complete with the necessary hardware to accomodate high or low skid gear and fixed or pop-out floats.
